If your blog post's featured images are fairly low resolution, you may want to delete the top image canvas. Your blog will still look gorgeous, but the top banner section looks best when you upload an image that's 2500px on the long side. You can also use our fave TinyJpeg to make them small so your blog posts still load quickly!

When Life Gives Us Lemons…

Whenever we plan an engagement, wedding or portrait photo session, the first questions I hear are, “What if the weather changes?” My answer is always the same, if there is a problem than there is a solution! If you live in Chicago, you must know that it is summer one day and is snowing the next.

For me, I think I first learned this lesson when I was a child growing up in Colombia.  My mom always told me that when life gives you lemons, you have to make “limonada!”

This past October, I was taking some photos of my friend’s baby shower. I love the way they get creative when hosting a party because they like to plan every detail -theme, flowers, cake, desserts, party favors, and most importantly they like to do everything themselves which makes everything even more special.

The photos were really important to them and also for me since my wife and I consider them family. For me, it was an opportunity to see how capturing the moment with photos can really say more than just words.

Just as I arrived to the baby shower it started to rain and they had to move the party inside the house. It was a big deal because everything had been planned to be outside.  Thankfully, they were so happy to celebrate the baby shower that it wasn’t difficult for me to persuade them to go outside in the rain to take some family portraits.

After a short walk and lots of rain, we captured one of my favorite moments of the day. I call it “The Baby Showered”.

I may not be able to plan every single detail, but one thing I know for sure is that I know how to make great “limonada” when life gives me lemons.

BEHIND THE LENS

MEET
Juancho + Johana

We’re Johana and Juancho — partners in life, creativity, and capturing love stories across the globe. Juancho’s journey began with bold determination: he moved from Colombia to the U.S. with nothing but vision, passion, and a deep love for people’s stories. He bought the best lens on the market before even owning a camera, and after his first engagement session with friends, he came home glowing. That spark turned into a decade-long career rooted in emotion, connection, and purpose. Juancho has a magnetic personality — the kind that makes fast friends with strangers on planes, in grocery aisles, and even with our UPS guy. Weddings, with all their energy, humanity, and beautiful chaos, are his favorite kind of playground.

I bring a different kind of energy to the team. With a background in modeling and a career as a radio and TV host, I’ve always lived in creative spaces — and now I channel that into editorial work and wedding storytelling. Juancho likes to call my eye “the girly point of view,” but really it’s about noticing what often goes unseen: the softness, the glances, the stillness in between the big moments. Maybe it’s the journalist in me, but I’m always drawn to the why behind the image. Together, we balance each other — and we love creating with people who value that harmony of heart and art.
